In a rematch of the midweek Canadian Championship showdown, Ottawa FC looks to build off a 7-0 beat down of Valour FC in a Canadian Premier league matchup.
Going into the season, many experts and fans of the CPL were very excited to see what Ottawa FC had to offer after their massive offseason acquisitions, and they surely haven’t disappointed. Ottawa remains unbeaten on the season and look to continue this streak against a Valour team who have yet to a win a game in all competitions so far this season.
Outside of one game this season (1-1 draw against Calvary FC), Ottawa have scored 2 or more goals a game across all competitions. A combination of clinical forward play combined with a very industrious and skillful midfield, Ottawa have looked unstoppable at times. With this hot start, they are showing why they were many peoples favorite to make a run for the title in the 2024 season.
On the other hand, Valour were coming into the 2024 full of hope after just barely missing out on the playoffs during the 2023 season. It’s safe to say this season has not gone to plan to start, Valour have dropped all four games across all competitions so far this season. Valour’s lack of ability to keep the ball out of their own net (Valour has conceded 2 or more goals in every game this season) is a cause for concern. To make matters worse, Valour has found it extremely difficult to find the back of the net this season (2 goals across 4 games and have been shutout in 2 games). Things are not looking promising at the current moment for this Valour squad.
These two teams met in a Canadian Championship matchup on May 1st, where Ottawa absolutely carved up Valour beating them 7-0 in a score line nobody could have predicted. Taking into consideration the above information, my pick for this rematch that is being played on Sunday May 5th will be, Ottawa team total over 1.5 goals at -110 (odds provided from bet365). This line makes zero sense to me, but with the lack of attention sports books pay to the CPL, this line feels like a gift from the gambling gods and I will be all over it.
After getting beat 7-0, Valour will have a point to prove and this reason has scared me off of Ottawa ML(-150). With that being said, Ottawa’s potent highflying offence combined with Valour’s lack of ability to defend, I feel very confident taking this Ottawa team total over 1.5.
